You can sometimes get the best flight deals by going directly to the airline website. Monitor the price at least three times a day. We suggest in the morning, noon and in the evening. Usually you will get the best prices on Wednesdays. Avoid booking your tickets over the weekend since the demand is usually high in that period causing the prices to go up. Look for limited-time promotions from airlines and try to be flexible with your flight schedule. Here is a promotion by Air France on their home page for European flights:

Check prices with a couple of travel agencies who are promoting that destination. They are a few that buy tickets in block and selling them at a discount. Reserve your tickets at least 21 days in advance. If you book within 14 days then you will be paying a premium. If you need to take a connecting flight then check if that airline has flights. You might get a connecting flight discount.
Then there are the obvious things like, flying off season and staying for at least 3 days. Some airlines require you to stay over the weekend. Check the large Internet travel sites:

priceline.com – A reverse auction site where you decide how much you are willing to pay, then the software checks if an airline is willing to sell a seat for that price. You can choose the date but not the time. You are billed only if the airline approves.
